Knoxville Wrap Up

First off, only a quarter way through the challenge and nearly half way to the goal! $1320 out of $3000! Sincere thanks to those of you who have donated so far and your words of support and encouragement are deeply appreciated.

In a word, Knoxville was great. It was great to come back to Knoxville where I spent so many years making friends and developing my love of running. It was great to finally run the marathon I put so much of my time into while I lived there. It was great to run sub 3 and feel strong especially after Birmingham. It was great to help people run PRs with my finely honed pacing skills ;) It was great to see the continued outpouring of support for this great cause.

Knoxville isn't one of the fastest marathons you'll come across but it is one of the friendliest. There's also a lot to do in Knoxville as well as areas within an hour drive. Great Smoky Mountains National Park is very accessible and quite beautiful in early Spring. There are many great neighborhoods featured on the course and you get to finish in one of the most famous sports stadiums in the country, home of the Volunteers. Go Big Orange! I'd be remiss not to mention how Jason Altman has been running a tight ship and great event since he took the reigns nearly 10 years ago. You'll enjoy this race if you decide to run it!

In closing, this one was the breath of fresh air and revival I needed after Birmingham. I don't hold anything against the Mercedes marathon. It was a great event overall but I just had a lot of cards stacked against me and it was disheartening to realize I wasn't going to run all 12 marathons under 3 hours. But, after 3 marathons my total time is 9:05:38. If things go to plan for Boston the total after 4 will be under 12 hours!

Thanks again for all the support and please keep it going the rest of the year. Remember, this is not a sprint, it's a marathon (x12)!
